The Mission Trail

If you're ever in San Antonio and want to experience the history of the area, I would highly suggest visiting the Spanish missions. They are apart of the National Park System and are free to enter as you move along the trail, either by car, walking, or bike.

In the 1700's, the Catholic Church wanted to establish missions in the area to convert the local native people. Also, because this area was still under the authority of Spain, those who converted were offered Spain's protection.

When viewing the missions you see the Spanish architecture and the beautiful details of artistic works as it would have been in that era.

 

 

There are five missions:

The Alamo

Mission Concepcion

Mission San Jose

Mission Espada
