Who Doesn't Want a Backyard Oasis?
The right landscaping can turn your backyard into the perfect oasis. Who doesn't want that, right?
Imagine, getting to come home and experiencing a gorgeous spot that you can escape the world's stress.
The idea of being home when you have a beautifully landscaped yard just seems sublime to me. Not to mention, the additional benefits of a nicely landscaped yard that adds curb appeal, increases the value of your home and the other homes in your neighborhood; you can even entertain with beautiful surroundings.
The possibilities are endless and definitely a win/win for the homeowner. Actually, our homes and yards are personal reflections of who we are. Adding touches of color, textures, and creating visual interest allows us to rest our minds and souls.
Considering the budget, time, and skill level, the only limitation is the imagination. I have no problem in that department. That other stuff? YUP! I lack in all of it! But, with ingenuity and a little bit ( ok, a lot) of stubbornness, I make my projects happen.
Some elements of your landscaping projects are:
-
Adding plants, trees, shrubs
I just love the pops of color that plants and flowers can add to your outdoor space. Whether you have them in planters, window boxes, or in the garden they can definitely create a very pleasing and even aromatic hive of sensory loveliness.
Depending on what zone you live in, depends on the type of plants, such as native to your region, you are able to plant and they thrive.

2. Planting a Great Lawn
When I was a kid my grandfather had the most luscious lawn in the neighborhood.
I remember I just loved laying in his amazingly green and lush grass. I felt the softness and coolness of his lawn while laying under a huge fruitless Mulberry tree, in the Texas heat.
His lawn was his pride and joy. He was constantly watering his grass morning and evenings, and every Friday he got out his mower, with the catcher on the back, to trim his his grass at exactly the perfect height. He was like an artist sketching his piece with perfect lines in the grass.
I look back and realize I enjoyed the effort of his tireless work so much and now, that I am older, I truly appreciate the time and work that his lawn required.
Being from Texas, our summers are hot and hotter and his grass was St Augustine. In case you didn't know, that luxuriously beautiful grass is a water hog and frequent fertilizing is necessary for this grass to survive our harsh, arid summers.
So, consider what it takes to get the lawn you crave. Do you want to give that green lawn the work required? it can definitely be a physical job. Are you willing to suffer for your work of art (your yard)? Do you have the equipment you need to mow, edge, weed your grass? Is hiring a lawn service an option?
What kind of grass works best for you? Do you want sod plugs or seed, St Augustine or Bermuda, Kentucky rye.
3. Flowerbeds
Oh, those flowerbeds. I love them so! They can be exciting and filled with blooms, contained within the borders of edging, rocks, landscape timbers - literally anything. They can have mulch in them, compost, or organic soil.
I love carved lines that my eye follows. Flowerbeds remind me of a picture frame that contains the masterpiece of the master artist's work.
