Balcony Gardening
When you live in an apartment, or a small home, your outdoor space is limited to a terrace, balcony, or patio.
If you're looking for ways to make the most of the space you have, here are some ideas for creating a garden on a small balcony.
1. ADD HEIGHT TO YOUR BALCONY
If you have a small balcony, one way to make it appear larger is by adding height. This can be done by planting vines that grow up the side of your building and over the edge of your balcony. You also can add plants that grow vertically such as bamboo or cacti.
2. ADD CONTAINERS AS PLANTERS.
Another way to maximize your space is by using containers as planters instead of planting directly into the ground on your balcony. Containers are easier to move around and they come in all shapes and sizes. They can work well with any space. Plus, if you don't like how they look simply replace the container.
3. TRELLIS THOSE PLANTS
The trellis is your friend. They can be support for those vines and also add a decorative touch to your balcony. And they come in a plethora of styles and sizes.
4. VERTICAL PLANTERS
Vertical planters utilize the space going up your wall. A lot of times for forget this surface space. Vertical gardening can be very pretty and also can save a back.
Things to be mindful of is the amount of sun your balcony gets during the day. Does the containers you select have drainage holes? Most plants don't like to sit in water. Does your containers and plants have wind breaks ? Especially up higher, wind can really do some damage to tender plants.
